Philosophy

philosophy

Evolving since 1955, the Camp Maplehurst philosophy continues to unfold as new and generations of parents, campers, and counselors bring fresh perspectives and vitality to the "Maplehurst Community."

One important aspect of the Camp Maplehurst community is that of a safe physical and emotional environment in which each member of the community watches over and protects all others. No form of education can proceed naturally when a person is afraid of critisms, bullying and scapegoating. In this protective environment, intellectual, social, physical, and emotional growth thrive. Another important aspect of the program at Maplehurst is, of course, expert instruction in the many activities offered each day. The instructors in these areas are carefully screened for their ability in each teaching area and their ability to provide a safe and structured environment.

We believe camp is and should be fun. Camp Maplehurst is about sharing a variety of experiences that are unavailable elsewhere, with a group of friends from many countries, cultures and backgrounds. It is living and learning to live with nature. It is the sense of accomplishment that one feels when, as a group, your cabin achieves a victory. it is laughter, storytelling and singing by the campfire. Maplehurst is the formulation of memories that will last a lifetime!
