overviewCamp Maplehurst, founded by Dr. Thomas Cohn, is a co-ed, private summer camp for children from all over the world, ages 7-17. We are located 18 miles North East of Traverse City, Michigan, and 25 miles South East of Charlevoix, Michigan, about 240 miles northwest of Detroit. Our amazing grounds consist of over 400 rolling acres which includes our spring fed 80 acre private lake, Lake Maplehurst. We have two waterfronts at Camp Maplehurst. Not only do we have a waterfront on Lake Maplehurst but we also have a waterfront on Torch Lake, one of the World's most beautiful lakes according to National Geographic. All of our campers live in cabins with at least two counselors. There is at least one staff on duty in the cabin at all times. Children choose activities individually and are taught by qualified counselors. Once a day, the cabin group votes democratically and selects a group activity to do together. Rest hour after lunch is mandatory. Also everyone has one free period each day after dinner to relax or to get ready for evening activity. Camp Maplehurst has programs in arts and crafts, ceramics, swimming, drama, dance, sailing, canoeing, photography, snorkeling, water-skiing, wakeboarding, tennis, softball, fencing, archery, golf, guitar, photography, fishing, soccer, basketball, martial arts, and many more. Camp Maplehurst offers children and staff a safe environment where learning can occur in an enjoyable way. Not only do we feel that skill development is important, but just as crucial is the development of leadership skills, decision-making abilities, and learning to live harmoniously with others in the group and the camp. We attempt to create a summer community where people's excitement about learning motivates others to become involved and active. |
