new campersA child's first time away from home is a significant experience, and we have assembled a few tips to help make it a positive one. Talking to your child and rehearsing the following routines before camp can be a good way to get ready: Please be aware of possible allergic reactions to insect repellents and sunscreen. Our policy will be to ensure that campers are wearing both when necessary, so be sure to select products that are appropriate for your child. It may be wise to use these at home first if you are not sure. If your child takes medication, please be sure that we receive full instructions so that the camp nurse or health officer can administer them effectively. While homesickness can occur, we are generally successful in resolving these issues with the cooperation of parents. From our experience, we urge parents not to undermine the camp experience by telling their children they can leave at any time. We have found that this prevents campers from being willing to help us resolve homesickness problems in positive ways. If you have concerns about these issues, please contact us before camp so that we can discuss possible strategies. |
